Foodies Project had the privilege of attending the grand opening of the new store on the Redwood Empire Food Bank‘s site, located at 3990 Brickway Blvd, Santa Rosa. The store is open 7 days a week, 10:30 am- 6:30 pm.
The store doesn’t currently take EBT, but should be certified shortly. The store does accept WIC and offers a nice alternative to holding up the line at a grocery store by poorly trained cashiers.
The store is a great concept because if you are at the Food Bank to pick up a distribution, you can get those pantry items to make healthy, simple meals at a very low cost. To shop at the store, you just need to self-verify (no proof needed) by income, enrolled in WIC, CalFresh (SNAP), Medi-Cal, Redwood Empire Food Bank program participant (Grocery Box Programs, Produce Pantries, Summer Lunch, etc…) or County Medical Services Program to become a member, and you will receive a special membership card to shop there.
Foodies Project editorial: This store is mostly stocked with shelf-stable, non-perishable items, before you shop these, head to the back right corner of the store to get your fresh produce and then to the left for your dairy, then see what you need from there. It’s always a great idea at any store to start at these spots first to avoid over-purchasing processed foods.
